Thanks, Susannah Fox (@SusannahFox) for using one of my photographs in your new refreshed website!

This is both a thank you as well as a celebration, because Susannah is more than a media/innovation/researcher icon to me, she’s a (my) community colleague who learns and teaches along the way. I love that as with this blog, Susannah’s posts and pages are also Creative Commons licensed.

About the photograph

Although it’s not stated in the caption, the photograph was taken in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC last fall, in the neighborhood’s newest LGBTQ restaurant/bar.

You can see the exterior of the venue here. This scene and additional scenes (which I’ll publish about separately) describe incredible generational change across age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation happening right now, in this part of Washington, DC that are in many ways unmatched in any other part of the United States.

I’m reading Derek Hyra’s book, Race, Class, and Politics in the Cappuccino City, about this now (which I’ll post on later).

Learning together

Susannah and I grew up in the same explosion of internet use and social media discovery in the most social (and most inclusive) city in the world, and I am lucky to have met her at the beginning of my journey. There’s more learning about the world per square centimeter here than in any other place I’ve been. Susannah is the person who told me I live in the future, because she lives here too. Now I don’t know where else to live. It’s wonderful to arrive as we have and see that we’re still learning.

Isn’t this century grand? 🙂
