The changing penetration of social media across the generations (graphs) – 2011 Update

The researchers at the Pew Internet & American Life Project ( @PewInternet ) always seem to produce useful data at just the right time for me. Actually I just think they are always publishing useful data…

This post contains updated graphs of social network site use across the generations, from 2005 – 2011.

I transformed the data for these, from “% of internet users who use …” to “% of all people who use…” – Even though it is impressive that 33 % of internet users over the age of 65 use social networking sites, if you do the math this is 13 % of all baby boomers.

You’ll notice a flattening of the gradient from GenY through to Baby Boomers since 2010, as it appears social networking use is more and more equivalent to just “using the internet.”
