Thank you for publishing my photograph, @TheStoryXChange.
The photograph was taken in front of the White House, during a last administration that fomented LGBTQ disparities instead of eliminating them.
This piece reminds me of one I wrote in 2017: Beyond walking in parades with us, things I’d like you to do to produce health for LGBTQ humans.
At the time of its writing, a fellow physician, sadly, referred to the piece as combative, which demonstrates how homo and LGBTQ-phobia insidiously creeps into all aspects of our society when we are not focused.
Now, hopefully, these ideas are mainstream, at least explicitly. We still need to work on the implicit bias we see all around us.
In 2021, in Washington, DC, we experienced an actual Pride March of LGBTQ humans and allies, authentically.
Enjoy the photographs.
Pride-themed merchandise isn’t necessarily a bad start – but truly lifting up the LGBTQ community is a year-round, intentional action.
