Equality and existence should never be taken for granted.
This week’s photograph was taken in 2019, the last year that Tel Aviv, Israel, was able to celebrate LGBTQ pride. It shows what was then the United States Embassy in Tel Aviv (@usembassyjlm), showing a display of Pride during the events, in defiance of directives from the United States government.
We were threatened by the building’s security personnel for daring to capture this image, of a building, on a beach front, in wide public view. Imagine being in a country openly celebrating its LGBTQ residents while your own home country was ashamed of its own.
This happened in our (recent) lifetimes. Remember.
