Thank you for using my photographs to illustrate this very detailed piece on the impact of COVID-19 on DC’s small businesses, @DCPolicyCenter.

It’s unfortunate that I now have so many photos of shuttered businesses. I hope these will be just a memory one day.

The analysis is comprehensive, as usual for the excellent work of the Center, covering everything from hospitality to grocery.

Across the board, however, the shift to solely takeout and delivery has not begun to replace the loss of sit-down services: Among D.C. restaurants that are open and offering modified services, revenues are at least 80 percent lower than what they were a year ago, according to RAMW.
