Thank you for using my photo in this piece about the Freedom to Marry campaign, @UCBerkeleyNews.

The concept about the journey of tolerance and support is a great one. Should a society hold a person to a long-ago held belief even after they have changed in a way that frees a generation to live authentically? I’ve never met a person who wanted to live their life unauthentically or in an imposed identity.

And it’s thanks to a determined group of idealistic realists who knew what it took to create lasting social change.

I was fortunate enough to be in front of the Supreme Court 3 years after the above photo was taken. The issues are a little different, I still only see the future.
