Thanks for using two of my photos to illustrate the best news stories of 2017, @ggwash, as written by Rachel Sadon (twitter:@Rachel_Sadon).

In November of this year billionaire Joe Ricketts shuttered DCist, a beloved and incisive local news source that helped hold the powerful accountable and elevate the voices of many in the city. Former Editor-in-Chief Rachel Sadon takes a look at what we’re missing with a roundup of the site’s best stories from 2017.

The first (below), is from 2011, at a time after I just began how to learn to use a camera. Maybe I am still in that time…. life is one big experiment.

The second (top) is from 2017, during the candle light vigil for Charlottesville.

I was at a few, or connect to several of the other events mentioned – the list shows what a dynamic place Washington, DC is, where the future is born every day.

Speaking of the future being born, DCist is sorely missed & many are looking forward to a return of what it brought to the place where hope will never be silent.

The District withstood a relentless news cycle this year, as enormous protests became a quotidian reality, as injustices deepened here, as the city made progress there, as scandal continued to rear its head, as Washingtonians made art and music and food. While the stories continued, 2017 ended prematurely for DCist.
