Photo Friday: White House Red Ribbon #WAD2015

I like to compare the scene in Washington to the one I found in 2008, when the red ribbon was not on the White House:

Despite the appearance of progress, there’s concern that what happened 20 years ago is happening again, today, to people who are transgender women:

Transgender women are 49 times more likely to be HIV-infected than the general population, with 19.1% of transgender women worldwide living with HIV and 21.6% of transgender women in the United States living with HIV. Rates of HIV infection are even higher for racial and ethnic minority transgender women in the United States.9 Black transgender women are approxi- mately three times more likely to be living with HIV than their White and Latina counterparts. Despite the increased risk of acquiring HIV, transgender women are an underserved population, not only in terms of HIV treatment, but also in terms of HIV prevention and medical care of their HIV disease.
