Toward zero disparities: Capital Pride Washington, DC, USA, co-sponsored by Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente physicians, nurses, executives, staff, members, and community allies for health walked in this year’s Capital Pride parade in our nation’s capital (@capitalprideDC), as silver sponsors for the event. Kaiser Permanente was also a gold sponsor for Capital Transpride this year (see: Celebrating Transgender Pride, our nation’s capital, and our community health, May 18 2013 | Ted Eytan, MD)

  • As you can tell from the photos above, we didn’t just walk with our members, we were led by them. That’s Isaac Holliday above, son of Regina Holliday (@ReginaHolliday), who took time out of her family’s weekend to be an ally for good health. It’s good to remember how much our patients help us, when they ask for help.
  • Trans person health is getting greater attention compared to past years. Notice the signs from the PFLAG contingent. We know more as a medical profession than we ever have about the medical necessity of supervised medical and surgical transitions and ongoing preventive care.
  • Speaking of allies, we met and saw many along the route, it is great to participate as a citizen, physician, member, staff member in a modern, integrated health system devoted to inclusion for everyone.
  • We’re continuing the conversation on June 20, 2013 at the Center for Total Health when we are hosting a Transgender Healthcare Dialogue. See the last photograph above for information or click here to register.
