Convergence Partnership urges support for public transportation, walking, and biking infrastructure to improve the health of all Americans

Conventional transportation policy and planning generally overlook or undervalue the impacts of transportation on health and equity.iResearch shows that, when properly designed, transportation systems can provide exercise opportunities, improve safety, lower emotional stress, link poor people to opportunity, connect isolated disabled and older Americans to crucial services and social support, and stimulate economic development. The current impacts of our transportation system do not affect all individuals equally. Low-income people, people of color, elderly and disabled populations fare far worse in America’s transportation system.
