In the 20th Century, they used to say another State set the country’s social agenda.

As far as I’m concerned, though, in this century it’s “As Washington, DC Goes, so Goes the Nation.”

Why?

From human rights to livability, Washington, DC, the actual city-not-yet-a-State (@DCStateHood51), is nation leading in innovation and future-thinking, in a place with less to work with than most. Innovation always happens in the out of the way places.

I have probably walked over 1,000 miles in Washington, DC (see the record here), and I never tire of it. It’s a place with insatiable curiosity about the conditions that create a loving world for all, and the best laboratory for that creation.

The photographs below are ones I took in just the last 7 days in our nation’s capital.

A colleague recently asked me, “Is there a protest in DC every day?” I hesitated before offering answer and then I realized why. What I see is the future being born 🙂 .

Enjoy.
