Quote: Paul Grundy, MD (IBM)

I can easily buy an amputation for a diabetic; I can’t buy comprehensive care to prevent that amputation.

Paul Grundy, MD, Human Resources Director, works for IBM. It’s worth going to the biography page linked to from this post, because if you see Paul in person, you’ll see someone very different - a person who’s 110 pounds lighter, thanks to a comprehensive approach to employee wellness at IBM.

Philip Marshall, MD, MPH
Thanks to professional colleague and fellow champion of consumer empowerment Phil Marshall, MD, MPH, for hosting an engaging session about the future of personalized health care.

Photos: Real Rain; A Relic

A rainy day in Washington, DC. I haven’t seen many of these at all, or much cloud cover, for that matter. This is a shot of the Connecticut Street Bridge that connects Dupont Circle to the Woodley Park Area.

The second photo is just for historical significance. If this scene isn’t yet in the Library of Congress Archive, it should be. This is part of the hotel that no one uses any more. I found this on my way to watch colleague Phil Marshall, MD, speak at the World Congress on Employer Health & Human Capital. One of his panelists is Joycelyn Elders, MD, who herself is a physician with a distinguished leadership contribution to our profession.
