This is is a photograph of the nationally regarded Whitman-Walker Clinic on S Street, in Washington, DC.

December brought with it saddening news about the HIV epidemic in Washington, DC, after a long period without data. More infections are spread through heterosexual contact than homosexual contact in this city, and people of color are hardest hit.

The large ribbon is a visible reminder that this community is struggling to help many who are fighting for their lives. The visibility of the fight is one of the most endearing things about this city to me.
